OHIP & Insurance to Cover Your Eye Care Needs
OHIP covers one major eye exam every year for patients 19 and under and 65 and over. OHIP will also cover annual comprehensive eye exams and follow-up appointments for those between 20 and 64 with a health condition that puts their ocular health at risk. These conditions include:
- Heart disease
- Retinal or corneal disease
- And more
Your eye exam may also be covered by OHIP if your physician specifically requested it. For these appointments, you will require a referral.
Direct Billing for Convenient Payment
We also direct bill to a number of major insurance providers, including:
Every insurance plan is different, so it’s a good idea to know what your plan covers before booking your appointment. Many plans will cover partial costs of comprehensive eye exams every 2 years, as well as a certain amount for glasses and/or contact lenses.
If you are unsure of your insurance coverage, we will gladly help. We can check your eligibility and coverage limits if your provider allows it.

Routine, comprehensive eye exams are an essential component of preventive health care. Eye exams assess your eyesight and visual system and are critical for detecting many serious ocular diseases.
Eye exams are crucial for monitoring visual milestones and detecting potential problems that could impact your child’s ability to see. We at Fergus Eye Care can help your child learn about their eyes and begin a life-long interest in their health.
Contact lenses can be an excellent alternative to glasses for those looking for a bit more flexibility in their eyewear. However, it is essential to undergo a contact lens exam to assess your overall eye health for extended contact lens use.
If you have diabetes, it is essential that you receive annual eye exams to monitor your ocular health. We provide diabetic eye exams that focus on diabetic eye issues using advanced diagnostic equipment.
